After-school teacher
After-school teachers are responsible for the education and care of children in an after-school program. Their duties include developing a comprehensive curriculum, planning daily activities, and assisting students with assignments. They also interact with parents and other staff members to create a safe and fun learning environment for children.
Job description
Prepare the classroom arrangement and environment for the children before the start of school and daily.
Prepare/ organize developmentally and age-appropriate activities for the classroom for children ages 1-4yrs old.
Maintain a safe, clean and orderly classroom environment (including the area outside each room and cubbies and bulletin boards) in compliance with Department of Health standards. Notify the director, in writing, as to any necessary repairs or renovations.
Leave the classroom in good order each day. Materials should be put away, table surfaces cleaned with a weak bleach solution, and chairs stacked to allow the floors to be cleaned.
Provide positive guidance; maintain an orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.
Relate to children in a warm, respectful manner and set appropriate and reasonable limits and expectations.
Physically and mentally react calmly, appropriately, and immediately to unexpected circumstances (i.e., falling child).
Be able to lift, carry and hold children, stoop and bend to a child’s level and stand for long periods of time throughout the day.
Communicate with parents
Typically – 3- 5 days/wk
Typical start time: 2 PM Typical end time: 6 PM
Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $15.00 – $22.00 per hour
