This 45 minute workshop presented by local pediatric Occupational Therapist, Jessica Zambito & Director of Bloom Sensory gym will be provided to parent’s to provide information on the role of occupational therapy for children. Ms. Zambito has been a pediatric occupational therapist for over 8 years throughout NYC public & private schools, early intervention, outpatient pediatric rehab at Sloane Kettering & multiple sensory gyms. Ms. Zambito will be opening Bloom sensory gym in Greenpoint next month and will offer a variety of services Including occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, counseling, classes and parent workshops.
This workshop will provide information to parents on the benefits of occupational therapy for children. Motor development, social-emotional development & sensory integration theory will be discussed. Red flags & signs for occupational therapy will be discussed. Strategies for successful sleep, healthy eating and daily play activities that encourage motor development will be discussed as well. Techniques to help decrease meltdowns and how to manage behaviors are addressed. The “science of play” urging a child- driven focus and helping children explore their world and learn is a large focus, educating families on the importance of play and its role in self regulation, sensory processing and social emotional development.
